Sanssouci a place to be 

It was marvelous family time spent at the Sanssouci Complex in Potsdam near Berlin. Two days of walking around the gardens and palaces was a real pleasure.  We felt overwhelmed with numerous temples and follies in the park.

I must admit that Frederick the Great – King of Prussia had a very grate architect, namely Georg Wenzeslaus von Knobelsdorff who fully understood the king’s needs and the purpose of the palace. 

The intention was to plan and build a place for relaxation rather than a seat of power.

Even the palace’s name highlighted its function. The French phrase sans souci means “carefree”. The Sanssouci palace was build up on a terraced hill in XVIII century. The palace itself and the whole complex were enlarged in XIX century.

Frederick the Great was known for his very good taste in design and decoration. As a reason for that you could feel the nobility of the place reflected in every detail of interior and exterior design. We took the advantage of picturesque vineyards which although still leaves less increased the nobility of the place.

Numerous alleys lead us towards magnificent fountains to marvelous orangery, and outstanding old mill. Albert was excited with so many stimuli around him. We were thrilled and enjoyed every bit of the steps we made in this beautiful surrounding. The more we wanted to experience, the more we became conscious that there was much more to see apart from this outstanding Sanssouci palace in Rococo style.

Therefore, our intention is to get back to Sanssouci Complex more than once.
